2 WRITERS NEEDED: Literary or screenplay professional background with experience working on proven successful projects, working knowledge of embedding messages within high entertainment value.
First, writers need to know, you will be working in a team with two other professional writers and myself. Time frame 6 months to 1 year. The location is on the island Maui starting January 2015. Writers will receive full expense accounts with rentals secured in advance for them and their families (if needed). This is a LAVISH production. We intend to treat ALL involved in this project with ALL extravagance needed to accommodate their highest and most productive levels of creativity, including lots of encouragement, appreciation and love with maximum creative freedom. In other words, you will be spoiled but we WILL expect our justified return for such investment. This is far from a no frills, struggle-laden, spec writing gig. But, we MUST HAVE real PROs.
The story, or my life was designed by the Master screenplay writer who wrote the script for my life with this express purpose in mind, I am now convinced even more so than when I wrote the post in February 2012 (see A Master Planned Life blog post) when it all started making sense and unfolding as I wrote (and continue to write with deeper clarification increasing exponentially each and every day). HE included enough glitz and glamour in my story/life with some brilliant and talented characters, environments of intrigue (see Going to Extremes blog post), famous as well as infamous figures, all combining to form a creative vehicle with expansive reach to capture the imaginations across diverse populations for broad mass audience appeal. Thereby, increasing the likelihood of amassing a sufficient collective action frame of likeminded public opinion that is required to generate significant change, like eliminating stigma and discrimination or increasing government mental health budgets and influencing new public policies.
To this end, writers will be tasked with providing high quality, mesmerizing and engaging material with both humor and tragedy, occasionally of epic proportion. Ancient Greek play writers would probably even be satisfied with the magnitude surrounding certain periods of my life and my saga.
This Kid Needs Help Too has an overarching goal beyond great box office figures and commercial success. There is an expectation for specific results. Our intent is to educate and enlighten a mass audiences and shape a new more social inclusive, tolerant public opinion in sufficient numbers to amass the collective action frame necessary to prompt significant and much needed change. Thereby, creating a paradigm shift which is by virtue of the transformation always preceded by new understandings that replace the existing body of knowledge somehow. To this end, writers must have proven successful experience with embedding messages within high entertainment value, or at minimum, ideas or suggestions for how to accomplish for this project specifically if you are to be one of our writers.
My script is quite different than typically exploitative entertainment properties with mental health disordered characters, like those who are confined to institutions in Cuckoo's Nest, Ken Kesey's wonderful book; or on the edge mentally and psychological fringes of society even while actively involved and contributing to mainstream world, like Black Swan. We are hopefully, though, that with an excellent property and commanding script we might entice the likes of Charlize Theron to play my character when older and Dakota Fanning when younger. We want stars for maximum mass audience reach that can bring box office draws like Portman was for Black Swan. To keep it real she just has to look a litte uglier. I really was that cute honestly at younger ages. Writers with firsthand knowledge of the contextual components will have an edge due to a requirement of evoking Baby Boomer nostalgia "Big Chill" "Woodstock" "Good Morning Vietnam" soundtrack and colorful imagery from that vibrant historical period with Love-In's in Griffith Park, Sit Ins at UCLA and Walk Outs like, off my campus that I lead while at Beverly Hills High School in the late '60's (see Bye Bye Carnaby Street Hello Abbie blog post).
Embedded within the the captivating story line are the underlying educational messages which I will in conjunction with psychiatrists, Dr's. Denis and David Mee-Lee, my shrink of the last 30 years and his brother a leading authority in dual diagnosis, a concurrent psychiatric disorder and substance/alcohol abuse often used in lieu of debilitating anti-psychotics to self-medicate. It is more common condition than often understood or recognized due to the addicts rarely admitting consumption amounts. Conversely many who seek treatment for addiction or dependence have mental health disorders overlooked and hence, untreated. Relapse, accidental overdoses or miserable recovery prognosis, in and out of programs of rehab, are common for this particular group. It is an enormous problem, common in "creatives" who far too often overdose accidentally or commit suicide. Hollywood and the music industry needs this knowledge badly. I am hopeful that if the Mee-Lee's agree to set up a special treatment facility in Los Angeles with transitional living to follow in a program comparable to what Dr. Denis Mee-Lee had that I spent a few years as a resident, was able to begin college and literally undergo my second major psychic change. The first was as a result of finding AA and working the steps hard with 2 different sponsors.
